Week 12 Life Drawing

Date: 03|06|19
Duration: 5 minutes
Wanted to upload this one because it was a very unique gesture. I have not drawn one like this during the subject. I believe I captured gesture correctly, especially with the knee coming towards me. Shading was as good as I could get it within 5 minutes.

This has to be one of my favourite drawings. Comparing this from my very first 10 minute drawing in week 1, I feel like I have come such a long way. I have strong confident lines, and my representation of depth through shading. I captured the folds on the right side and I believe this has to be one of my best drawings I have done.

Week 11 Life Drawing

Date: 27|05|19
Duration: 20 minutes
Seated position. I don’t think I was able to capture perspective and depth correctly through the use of line. Her legs were meant to look like they were coming towards me rather than downwards. I experimented with colour as seen on the right.

Another awkward position for me. I don’t think I was able to show the body coming towards me. However I do feel as though I capture the shadows with the use of colour very well with this one.

Week 10 Life Drawing

Date: 20|05|19
Duration: 20 minutes
Longer drawing. I tried to work in tone better by trying to fit around the muscle. I also tried to avoid strong lines to depict muscle separation and relied on the use of tone to represent the depth. Probably best in the pectoral and upper leg area.

I feel as though my shading has been improved greatly. A lot more work to be done but for the most part it is much better. I especially like the right upper leg ( the model’s left leg) because I believed I captured tone very well through lines and shading.

Week 9 Life Drawing

Date: 13|05|19
Duration: 1 minutes
Struggled with warm up this time. I was finding myself too drained in terms of trying very hard to capture the gesture correctly. I may have been thinking too much and in turn, not allowing myself to draw with a free hand.

More drapery studies. The one on the left felt too unnatural. As in, I did not capture the ‘flowy -ness’ of the dress. However I do believe I was able show the tension and the relaxed fabric better in the drawing on the right.

Week 8 Life Drawing

Date: 06|05|19
Duration: 1 minutes
Quick warm up with gesture drawings. I have found that my proportions with the female body are much better than from when I started. The torso, arms, and legs seem to be in proper proportion.

Duration: 15 minutes
This is the first time doing drapery studies. I do not know much about it. However I feel as though I have represented what I saw. The things I must work on are the sense of depth within the drawing. The shadows are too harsh, and must be worked in much more gently.

Week 7 Life Drawing

Date: 22|04|19 – 29|04|19
Duration: 5 minutes – 10 minutes
This a collage of thumbnail drawings that I was instructed to do for two weeks. I tried to capture the poses that were most interesting to me. This exercise helped me capture poses very quickly.

Date: 22|04|19 – 29|04|19
Duration: 5 minutes – 10 minutes

Week 6 Life Drawing

Date: 15|04|19
Duration: 5 minutes
I feel as though I captured the proportions and gestures correctly to the best of my ability. Also, I feel as though my ability to capture tone and depth has increased. I’m not just shading in where I see shadow, I am actively trying to be much more precise with where and how I am shading.

I struggled with capturing the gesture with this drawing. However I feel as though proportioning and tone was done really well. As you can see I am wrapping my lines around the figure in order to capture depth more accurately.

Week 5 Life Drawing

Date: 8|04|19
Duration: 15 minutes
I feel as though I am capturing tone a lot better recently. However my proportioning with the female body is still struggling. The torso is clearly too long. In saying that, I feel as though I can draw female legs exceptionally well. Just not the torso and arms.

I struggled with capturing tone in this drawing. My tutor had told me to draw shadows as if they were wrapping around the body, rather than just scribbling in them. This technique would take longer, and I feel as though I can do it a lot better if I took my time. I feel as though I’m rushed. If I could just learn to take my time I think I would do a lot better. The proportioning in this drawing is a lot better than what I usually do, so I am pretty proud of that.

Week 4 Life Drawing

Date: 1|04|19
Duration: 10 minutes
I feel as though I am getting better with capturing seated gestures. I feel as though my tone was good in this one. Although, I do believe I need to work on the quality of the line in my drawings and they are extremely scratchy. I think that is my ‘style’ of drawing and I’ve been trying very hard to make my lines more confident and definitive.

Date: 1|04|19
Duration: 5 minutes
Had 5 minutes to draw each gesture on this page. I am very happy how these turned out. I feel as though I captured the gestures to the best of my ability. However, there is always room for improvement. I was not able to capture the tone and depth as well as I liked.
